Don't Let Your Basement Become Wasted Space

How To Paint And Seal Paint Chips

When you have small rock chips on your car paint, it can often be hard to figure out what to do. They are probably too small to warrant investing in a new paint job. And, they are usually too small to necessitate taking them to an auto body repair shop. However, if you ignore these paint chips, they could lead to dangerous rusting on your metal. To avoid this, you should learn how to fix small paint chips on your own. It will save you a lot of money and inconvenience down the road.

Painting and Sealing the Paint

Small paint chips can be patched with auto body replacement paint. You should get the factory replacement paint from the dealership to make sure you get the perfect match. These are the most convenient to use because they come with a brush that is built into the lid. This makes it perfect for painting over tiny holes. The key is to apply the paint very lightly, so it does not stick up too much when it dries. It is better to apply two thin coats, then to apply one thick coat. If you use the spray-on sealant, make sure you tape off the area so it does not get all over. This paint will be stronger and create a better seal.

Then, you will need to apply a glossy clear coat. The clear coat sealant is sold at dealerships as well. It is usually available in spray-on or paint-on form (just like the actual paint). The spray makes it easier to get a nice glossy coat with no brush strokes. This seals the paint and makes it waterproof.

Buffing Out the Paint

After the hole is covered with the replacement paint you might still need to buff it out for the perfect sheen. A wood polishing attachment for a cordless power drill is very affordable and easy to use. Start off at a low level, because you do not want to polish off the glossy coat on the paint.

If you polish too hard, you will be diminishing the sealing power of the glossy coat. In fact, you can even polish in between the paint and glossy coat, if you prefer. Once you learn how to do this, you will be able to repair multiple spots very quickly. This is a great way to make sure your paint job looks new and clean as your car ages. Don't neglect your small paint chips, or else they will be much more difficult and expensive to fix. For more information, contact companies like Space Age Auto Paint Store.

About Me

Don't Let Your Basement Become Wasted Space

My wife and I recently had a new home built, and while we had few stressful decisions to make, we greatly enjoyed the process and love our new home. Due to budget concerns, we decided to leave our basement unfinished at first. We figured that since we have so much "stuff" that we need to store, like off-season clothing and seasonal decorations, we would just use it for storage. However, we soon regretted not having it finished and felt like we had "wasted space" in our new house that wasn't being put to good use. We turned it into a "mini apartment" with its own entrance that we now rent out to a friend for a little extra income. I love sharing what we learned during the home building process, so I am excited to share our experiences and tips on our new blog! Come back for more construction tips!
